Theoretical constructs and evidence based techniques will be provided for upper extremity assessments and interventions.  Participants will refresh their therapeutic skills while reviewing their anatomical foundation to transform their knowledge into functional clinical interventions.  Therapist will learn and/or refresh their skills with varying therapeutic taping techniques, proprioceptive & mirror imagery principles, mobilizations skills, and identify posture mal-alignments for individualized exercise prescription.  Therapists are expected to gain some new innovative therapy ideas after completing this course.  This course is designed for therapists to plant their passion for rehabilitation into clinical practice while learning in a fun and informative environment.

Day 1:  Start with a Strong Foundation (7.0 hours CEU) Shoulder and Elbow Rehabilitation

Day 2:  Putting a Strong Foundation to Functional Work (6.0 hours CEU) Wrist and Hand Rehabilitation

 Learning Objectives Day 1:

  1. Describe proper upper quadrant biomechanics for functional movement patterns versus faulty movement patterns.
  2. Detect capsular restraints.
  3. Identify clinical significant testing techniques for common shoulder and elbow conditions.
  4. Implement a functional exercise program for patients with upper extremity pathology.
  5. Recognize and apply specific taping techniques for joint support, muscle inhibition and facilitation, and posture awareness.
  6. Implement upper extremity exercises that include holistic approach to functional movement patterns.
  7. Differentiate between types of therapeutic taping and their appropriate application principles.

Learning Objective Day 2:

  1. Identify basic movement patterns, anatomy and biomechanics of the wrist and hand
  2. Select validated patient-centered outcomes that are Medicare recognized to detect  true functional change
  3. Demonstrate wrist and hand clinical tests.
