Patricia Toole, MAT, MS OT, OTR/L, MOM is an Occupational Therapist with 20 years of lived experience in seating, positioning and postural care. She has been working professionally in the area of assistive technology, wheeled mobility and positioning for the last 10 years including the last 2 years implementing postural care interventions with her clients. Postural care, and with it, the ability to comfortably position clients for sleep while protecting their body shapes and improving their function during the day has been a game-changer. We no longer have to simply “watch” the body shape distortions get worse, we can do something about it, and in a gentle, non-invasive way that empowers clients and their supporters. As a mom of three active boys, including her oldest, Alex, who lives with spastic quadriplegia cerebral palsy, she knows first-hand how important it is to listen well, to empower a person’s first circle of support, and to have a long-haul perspective that is flexible enough to endure.
Patricia presented a short course at the 2017 Washington OT Association Conference and a 6 hour course for PTNW in 2018. She was well received on both instructional days. She received all excellent feedback scores with many therapists thanking her for sharing her insights, ideas, and concepts based on her exhaustive empirical research. Enjoy!
