Ergonomics in the Trenches and Beyond:
An Evidence-Based Approach to Safe Patient Handling
and  Exploring Office Settings and Work Stations
April 14 -15, 2012
Tacoma, WA

Many therapists are reluctant to develop an ergonomics component to their practice because they don’t feel they have the skills or knowledge base to examine, evaluate and provide interventions for their patients/clients. This course is designed to fill that gap.  You will learn how to perform appropriate tests and measures in both office and rehabilitation settings, what ingredients are needed to provide ergonomic recommendations, and practical resources available to assist you.  This course could help improve your cash flow business.

Speakers:
Janet Peterson, PT, DPT, Ergonomic Consultant
Jeannette Murphy, OTR/L, CEA

Jeannette Murphy, OTR/L, CEA

Jeannette is an occupational therapist and certified ergonomist in Spokane who works at St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Institute in the acute rehab hospital and the outpatient industrial rehabilitation program performing ergonomic evaluations.  She earned her certification as an ergonomist in 2002 through the Board of Certification in Professional Ergonomics.  She was responsible for developing and coordinating a safe patient handling program after the Washington State legislature passed the Safe Patient Handling Law in 2006, which resulted in a 52% decrease in injuries caused by patient handling tasks.  Jeannette has presented at the national, state, and local level on office/computer workstation ergonomics and safe patient handling, including WOTA conferences in 2003, 2006 and 2009.

Jeannette’s non-working passions include riding her road bike throughout eastern Washington, northern Idaho, and Montana, and kayak/kayak camping on an isolated lake or river.
