This course will cover principles of joint mobilization and anatomy/biomechanics of the hand, wrist, and elbow in lecture format.  Labs will cover joint mobilization of the thumb/fingers, wrist and elbow, and soft tissue treatment of the hand and forearm.  Common diagnoses of the elbow wrist and hand will be discussed and techniques for treatment will be practiced.  It is a lab-oriented course with emphasis on everyone feeling comfortable enough with the techniques to begin using them in the clinic.
 
Day 1:
8:00 - 12:00
Fundamentals of mobilization
Anatomy and biomechanics of the hand
Lab:  Joint mobs of the thumb and fingers
         Soft tissue treatment of the hand
         Anatomy and biomechanics of the wrist
Lab:  Palpation and mobilization of carpals
12:00 - 1:00  Lunch
1:00 - 5:00
Lab:  Continuation of carpal mobs
Lab:  Joint mobs of proximal/mid-carpal joints
         Soft tissue treatment of the forearm
Discussion and practice treatment for common diagnoses
Day 2:
8:00 - 12:00
Questions/review
Anatomy and Biomechanics of the elbow
Lab:  Joint mobilization of the elbow

1:00 - 3:00 
Lab: Soft tissue treatment-Forearm and upper arm
Discussion and practice treatment for common diagnoses

Goals:
  • Understand the principles of mobilization and how to apply them
  • Ability to palpate and mobilize individual carpal bones
  • Ability to palpate and mobilize the proximal and mid-carpal joints of the wrist
  • Ability to palpate and mobilize the radiohumeral, ulnohumeral, proximal radioulnar, & distal radioulnar jts of the elbow
  • Learn several techniques for treating soft tissues of the hand and forearm
  • Apply techniques learned to common diagnoses in the hand, wrist and elbow
