This course is designed specifically for Pediatric Occupational, Physical, and Speech Therapists. Forum is both lecture and “lab” interaction with attendees. Discussion will be objective and fun, and provide up-to-date strategies for fostering cultural relevancy with children enrolled in therapy and their families. Current resources will be provided. This is a refreshing and thought provoking course celebrating diversity and culture in the therapy community.
This course is appropriate for pediatric therapists of all levels of experience.
Goals and Objectives
• Explore possible avenues for developing culturally sensitive working relationships with child/patients’ families or caregivers to maximize therapeutic treatment plans and allow for smooth transition upon planned discharge or reduction in services.
•Explore creative and practical options to use when responding to typical comments and questions that children pose about human differences.
•Understand how to use “Persona Dolls” to develop culturally relevant relationships with the child receiving therapy using storytelling techniques.
